Microphone Placement

There's no single best way to microphone an acoustic guitar. You're the only one who can find the sound that you want.

Type of Microphone

Both condensor and dynamic microphones work well for recording the sound. A third type of microphone called piezo, which is designed to record vibrations of the surface it is mounted to, can be installed onto the body of the guitar.

  • Dynamic microphones will give a warmer sound (because the high-end of frequencies rolls off), though the signal will be weaker than that of a condensor so you'll have to increase the gain. You could try to apply an equalizer to a condensor microphone to achieve the warmer sound, but it won't be entirely the same.
