Getting a Better Overdriven Sound
It's often the difference between tube-based distortion and transistor-based distortion. Solid state amps can't get that Marshall stack sound with transistors. Of course tubes are pricey and there are a few options.
- Getting a tube-based amplifier or amp head and cabinet.
- Getting an amp modeller (tube-based provides a more authentic sound) and plugging that into an amplifier or power amp and cabinet combo. Solid state equipment has the advantage for this kind of setup as transistors don't have the character of a tube and this is what the amp modeller expects.
